6 Comma in simple sentence
В отличие от русского языка, в английском запятая может ставиться также перед последним из трех или более однородных членов, присоединенным союзом and, or или butIf he had lover, wife, or children, we hear nothing of them — Имел ли он любовницу, жену или детей - мы ничего о них не знаем
Запятая также может не ставиться между однородными определениями, если они выражены короткими словами.a tall slim girl with long straight hair — высокая, стройная девушка с длинными, прямыми волосами
Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is the largest city in Africa — Каир, столица Египта, является самым большим городом в Африке
Unfortunately, grey areas still remain in the law — К сожалению, в законе еще остаются темные места.
I want to take this time, if I may, to digress and say that I want to particularly thank Senator Codey — Я бы хотел использовать это время, если можно, чтобы сделать отступление и сказать, что я хочу отдельно поблагодарить сенатора Коуди
Participle clause 3б)The quorum being present, the meeting proceeded to business — Так как присутствовал кворум, собрание приступило к работе.
John, give me that book — Джон, дай мне вон ту книгу
Dear Sirs, (Gentlemen:)
I beg to inform you... —
Yours sincerely,
John Smith —
Leo Tolstoy was born on 9th September, 1828 — Лев Толстой родился 9 сентября 1828 года
December 30th, 1921 — 30 декабря 1921 года
См. Dates
